In a day when Catholics have less time and yet a greater need than ever for personal prayer. The Catholic Prayer Book is a much needed resource. Filled with a wide range of prayer from the rich tradition of the Church - including personal, family and liturgical prayer, and prayer for special occasions. The Catholic Prayer Book serves as a treasury of Catholic worship from ancient times up to the present day.
"Many ancient prayers are relevant to today's age precisely because they were inspired by the Holy Spirit. The Catholic Prayer Book gathers the old and new prayers as part of our Christian heritage. Monsignor Michael Buckley 'is like a householder who brings out from his storeroom things both new and old.' The prayers in this book belong to the Church. I hope its use will bring all Christians closer together, but above all closer to God, because the power of prayer is the Spirit at work in our lives and world."
Cardinal Basil Hume, Archbishop of Westminster
"
The Catholic Prayer Book represents a fine attempt to reestablish a venerable Catholic traition, namely the personal prayerbook. The editor,Monsignor Michael Buckley, has culled excellent prayers from the Catholic treasury of the past and present. He has provided us with a valuable companion for every Catholic interested in personal prayer.
By including basic liturgical prayers and sacramental prayers along with inspirational meditations,
The Catholic Prayer Book restores a sense of balance in the devotional life of clergy, religious and laity. I highly endorse

The Catholic Prayer Book
Michael Buckley's popular page in Britain's largest Catholic newspaper,
The Universe, reaches out to thousands of people who need help in coping with their everyday problems. In his new book,
Dear Father Michael, he gathers together a cross-section of the hundreds of letters he receives every week.
The letters he chooses to answer are typical examples of what affects people in today's world who seek inner peace and meaning to their lives. His approach is always a personal one with which readers can easily identify. In his answers readers will see themselves, their problems and possible solutions. He responds to questions on subjects such as fear, death, family relationships, redundancy, addiction, depression, guilt, worry, prayer, forgiveness and faith, with characteristic honesty and compassion.
In addition, he shares with us the 'good news' - letters from people communicating their joy at being healed, helped or comforted, often through his own El Shaddai ministry of healing, which has spread rapidly throughout England and beyond.
He concludes each reply with a specially composed prayer which flows from the answer he has given. It has a healing dimension which can be used by anyone facing a similar problem.
Every reader will derive comfort from Michael Buckley's answers to the universal problems that afflict us all.

Dear Fr Michael
Fear is the enemy of freedom. It is the destroyer of innr peace and personal happiness. It prevents us from becoming our own person because it hinders us from discovering who we really are. It hides our potential from us and so we live life at a different level to the one we know deep in our hearts we should be living. Fear comes between us and the true love and respect we should have for ourselves. Each one is a unique person and in this challenging book Michael Buckley reminds us that we have a duty to love ourselves, and rid ourselves of the fear which cripples us and holds us as its prisoner.
This book
Do Not Be Afraid is simple yet in a deeply moving way, shows how Michael Buckley in his El Shaddai healing ministry encouraged hundreds of ordinary people to free themselves from the shackles of fear which controlled their lives. There were many who had such a low opinion of themsleves that they were lacking in the self-confidence necessary for making deep lasting friendships. Inordinate worry about ordinary everyday problems was the source of stress and tension which destroyed people's inner peace. Hurtful memories of the past affected people so that they were unable to live in the present and the quality of their lives was consequently diminished. Fears concerning the future with the infirmities of old age and the manner of their lives before death filled many with foreboding and disquiet.
The perfect example of how to deal with fear is to be found in the life and teaching of Jesus. He is the example on which the El Shaddai Healing Movement is totally based. His life from beginning to end was set against a background of fear-filled situations. Yet he never allowed his fear to destroy his inner peace or to control him. Because he was human like we are he acknowledged his fear of suffering, violence and rejection, and in everything he trusted himself to his Father whom he knew loved him completely, and in whom he had absolute faith. So that we might be like him, he and his Father sent the Holy Spirit to be our guide, counsellor and friend throughout our lives.
This is the essence of the El Shaddai Movement. We believe that 'the greatest antidote to fear is to love yourself, and to believe that God is your loving Father who never stops loving and supporting you. Our living faith for the Father's love for us in Christ and the Holy Spirit conquers every fear, and brings us deep inner peace. Fear which wants to control us cannot share the same person with deep, living Christian faith.'
This book is for anyone, whether Christian or not, who has struggled with fear in any form. Its powerful message that when Christ is with us we have nothing to fear will offer healing and help to all those who hear it.

Do Not Be Afraid
In this highly readable book the whole idea of healing is seen in straightforward terms of reconciliation. Sin has so affected the whole human race that we need to be reconciled with ourselves, our neighbour, and if we are Christians with God. The need for us to love ourselves is seen as absolutely essential for any form of relationship with God or others with whom we share our lives and world.
It deals with fear and guilt and how they imprison and cripple us so that we are not true to ourselves. All forms of healing, whether physical, emotional or spiritual are seen in a creative, positive light born out of Michael Buckley's own personal experience of the El Shaddai healing movement which he founded in 1984. The atmosphere of the book is one of realistic hope, created by the many personal witnesses whose lives were changed because they were helped and healed through the El Shaddai ministry.
This is a simple yet deep book to which you will return time and time again in order to understand the full scope of Christian healing and what it means to your personal life and inner peace.

His Healing Touch
We have to make time and space for reflection and morning prayer through which we give direction to our lives for the rest of the day. This is as natural and necessary for us as the air we breathe. In the morning we often feel the presence of the Holy Spirit within us nourishing us with his encouragement in our faith so that we are ready for whatever the day may bring. This is essentially more important than worrying about our business problems or how we are going to cope with the domestic affairs of our home.
Prayer is not so much about words as it is about life, my life. It is a journey of discovery in faith which goes to the depth of our being without words. The book of Morning Prayers is the launching pad of your day's journey. Make its prayers your own so that you grow beyond them. Father Buckley has written many of its beautiful prayers, in which the Holy Spirit has a very special place, for reflection and prayer.
Each day has a particular theme and as you make the prayers your own, allow the Holy Spirit to pray in you as you reflect on life and its meaning. Soon you will put the book aside and be talking to God at a personal level which is beyond human writing. You will be at peace because you know deep within you that you have begun the day well.

Morning Prayers

Let Christ's Peace Disturb You
I wrote this book in 1985 as an insight into the life of Jesus Christ which I tried to make my own through the Holy Spirit. The inner peace which we all seek is Christ's gift to us as a lived and living experience. Peace is an "essential" Gospel word, and there are many other "essential" Gospel words without which the life of Christ would not have its true meaning for us. I had to learn to experience these "essential" words in the way that Christ lived them, and make them my own. I discovered that the only way for me to understand the Gospel's full significance of these "essential" words was through the El Shaddai Healing Movement which I founded. This book which is now reprinted is the spiritual insight of what Christian Healing really means. I hope that when you read it you will make its message your own in your life.
The Gospel is not only Jesus' lived experience; it is yours as well when you take his lifestyle and measure it against his words as you try to live them in your daily life. Through the power of the Holy Spirit as our guide we discover what peace meant to Christ, a peace which he wants to share with us. I hope that this book which is an expression of my own Christian journey will help you to be open to the Holy Spirit as you journey on your path to inner peace.
Christ gave words a new dimension and they became "essential" Gospel words in our search for peace. When you read this book I pray that you will let Christ's peace disturb you.

CD 1: Track 1:Healing is a very misunderstood word. Healing is, in Christian terms, nothing less than reconciliation with ourselves, our neighbour and to God.
Healing, therefore, is the new life of the Spirit by which we are introduced to a new, loving relationship with God our Father.
Healing is of the whole person and not just the body and the emotions and the soul. Christian healing frees us from all those elements in our life which prevent us from being fully human, fully alive. This CD explains through true stories told in very simple language how healing changes people's lives in a very deep way which brings them peace and fulfilment.
Track 2:An attempt to explain, in a simple and honest way, how healing and suffering are not mutually exclusive. They are, in fact, complementary as one explains the other.
In the person of Jesus Christ the paradox of healing and suffering is reconciled. Suffering is a mystery for the Christian. True life stories give us insights into the problem of suffering and how we can use it to grow as persons in our lives.

CD 2: Track 1:
God the Father's love is gratuitous. He loves us because love is of the very essence of who He is. He loves us even when we seem unable to love ourselves.
The healings of Christ showed the Father's unique love for each individual.
It will take us a lifetime to grow in our understanding of it. We know from looking inside ourselves that we do not deserve it, but once we accept God as the Father in our lives then we are on the road to healing and peace. Again in this CD there are many stories of people who shared their experiences with us which will help us to know God as a loving Father.
Track 2:Trusting in God's presence within and around us will encourage us to see life as a challenge and adventure. The more we trust God, the more we become aware of ourselves and what our Christian life is all about.
Problems come our way often when least expected and when we turn to God for assistance He will not fail us as our Father in helping us to solve them.

CD 3:
The concentration on our unworthiness and sinfulness, rather than God the Father's love for us, has deprived our Christian lives of the spirtual nourishment which healing prayer brings. A prayer for healing is quite simply a 'love prayer.' We can never have enough love and enough healing. God as our Father will use our prayers to heal those for whom we pray in a way far more powerful than we can ask or imagine.
This CD opens a whole new way of praying which is itself healing. It is a form of prayer which changes our life and brings us peace.

God meant us to be ourselves, to grow in freedom and take care of the person we are as we reach out in hope to the person we want to become. True love of self as a Christian opens us up to a whole new way of life.
Many people travel across the world in order to discover their roots. Our journey of self-discovery is the most difficult journey we will ever undertake. It is a journey which begins with ourselves. The search for oneself is basically for the Christian a search for God. Only His Holy Spirit will light up our lives and lead us gently on the path to self- discovery. When we really begin to know who we are then we will at last be free to be ourselves. There is no greater freedom. If we do not love ourselves then our life will be lifeless and lonely. Christ came to share his love for everyone and in him we reach out in a friendship from which no one is excluded.

CD 5: Track 1:
Fear affects us all: it is an unavoidable part of the human condition. How can we come to terms with the things that make us afraid? The greatest antidote to fear is to believe that God is your loving Father who never stops loving you.
Fear is the enemy of freedom. It prevents us from becoming our own person because it hinders us from discovering who we really are. It is the destroyer, not only of personal identity, but also of personal happiness. In the El Shaddai ministry of healing we encourage people to believe in God and in themselves. So many are filled with irrational fear which triggers off in them an overpowering sense of guilt, unnecessary stress and tension, despondency, depression, hurtful memories, insecurity and a thousand and one other things which bring their lives to a standstill and prevent them from being human. They are in dire need of healing, but are afraid of the consequences. This CD may be the answer for which they are looking.
Track 2:
Irrational guilt condemns us to live in the past. Of all the healings we need the most, if we are to grow as persons, then learning to forgive ourselves is the most important.
Guilt and fear are a dangerous cocktail. They leave us with such a destructive hangover that we are unable to live our lives in peace and happiness. We are prisoners of the past who do not know how to live in the freedom of the present. In our guilt about the past we have not only to forgive others but ourselves as well. The healing of forgiveness of our hurtful past teaches us how to integrate it into our present life so that it no longer fills us with guilt. There are many wonderful personal stories of healing in this CD which make it something so powerful that we are healed as we listen to it.

CD 6: Track 1:
God meant us to hope, not only for the joys of heaven, but also for a meaningful, joyful life on earth.
When troubles come our way we know that we will win through because we have within us the power to believe that happiness is our birthright as Christians.
Christian hope tells us that we should be gloriously free to be ourselves. "When Christ freed us he meant us to remain free." (Galatians 5:1.) This is the theme of the CD. If we live in hope then we trust as Christians that God will help us to overcome the barriers which separate us from loving our true selves and being at peace. Hope teaches us to evaluate ourselves correctly and gives us the courage to continue our search for self-discovery, self-fulfilment and the joy of living.
Track 2:
If we want deep inner peace, then we must be prepared to be healed. Peace is an essential gospel word without which the message of Jesus Christ would be stripped of all its meaning. Peace is the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Through the power of the Holy Spirit we attempt to live out in our own lives the implications of what peace meant to Jesus Christ. It is after all his own peace which he offers to us. The gospel of peace is not only Jesus' lived experience. It is ours as well when we take his life-style and measure it against how we try to live it in our daily lives. Jesus gave the word 'peace' a new meaning because his teaching made a deeper impression on the people because he taught them with authority, unlike their own scribes. (Matthew 7 : 29.) We need the power of the Spirt in our lives when we pray for peace because peace is the gift of the Holy Spirit.

CD 7: Track 1:
The Church is basically a family of Christians living out the gospel of Jesus Christ about the Kingdom of God the Father. It was Our Lady who gave birth to Jesus Christ and through her he entered the human race. Just as Christ is the Lord of the Church, so Mary is its Mother. This is the role in which she saw herself in the El Shaddai Movement. Without women playing their special role in the Church then it would be diminished and lacking in the gospel fullness which Jesus and the Holy Spirit gave it. There were women including the Mother of Jesus present when the Holy Spirit came at the First Pentecost and they received its power. Surely the Holy Spirit did not pass her by!
Women have a unique role to play in theChurch and the world. Oonagh Watters was with the El Shaddai Healing Movement since the start and she was the Mother and Soul of the movement. She brought a gentleness and compassion wherever she went on the healing missions. She was known for her discernement which is absolutely essential for any healing movement. Her talk given at the Annual El Shaddai Conference at Scarborough, North Yorkshire was unscripted and obvioulsy comes across as to how she regarded the healing of people. Her photograph together with Monsignor Michael Buckley is on the front of the CD.
Track 2:
We live in a changing world and Church. One of the things we are certain of today is that change is here to stay. We are a people for all seasons because the Holy Spirit is with us inspiring us with insights which speak to people's minds and hearts. This is an exciting CD which encourages us to take an active part in the changes which Christ wants for his Church. In El Shaddai we share in the prophet Joel's dream for the future. 'I will pour out my spirit on all mankind. Your sons and daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams and your young men see visions.. (Joel 3:1.)

Healing is very personal, and in El Shaddai we see it in the context of a one-to-one relationship in which we reveal our attitude to people, to God and to ourselves. In this DVD Fr Michael shares his experiences of over twenty years ministry of healing and gives us his insights into what Christian healing is all about. His insights show how we can grow in our understanding of who we are and what our life is all about. He believes that El Shaddai is a gift of the Holy Spirit which is given to us not only for our own benefit but also for everyone who wants to be more fully human, fully alive as a person. His talk in this DVD is the measure of his attitude to life which has grown out of his deep personal relationships which he shared over the years with the thousands who came to El Shaddai meetings in search of healing.
In the process he emphasises that there is no difference between the minister of healing and the one who comes in search of healing because they both need healing and through God's Spirit they heal each other. As he usually does, Fr Michael in this DVD speaks without notes so that he can be seen to share openly and honestly with you as you watch and listen to him. He wants to be at one with you as you share together in your search for healing. He made this DVD for you because your healing is important to him.
